Connect with the early careers community to share insights, discuss what’s changing and build the relationships that help our sector thrive.

More than halfway through the year, this series of AAGE roundtables is a timely opportunity to pause, compare notes and gather practical market updates from the people who understand the realities of early careers recruitment and development. Join peers, partners and the wider AAGE community for an engaging conversation about the trends, pressures and opportunities shaping programs right now.

We’ll open with networking over lunch to help you quickly build new connections and reconnect with familiar faces.
These conversations are your chance to hear about what others are seeing in market, test your thinking, benchmark your approach and take away ideas you can apply in your own organisation. You might connect with another employer navigating similar workforce planning challenges, meet a university or supplier partner who can support your next campaign, or hear how other teams are managing budgets, team capacity, technology, student expectations and the need to keep the human connection at the heart of early careers.

Whatever stage your program is at - and whatever questions stakeholders are asking - this community of practice is an incredible source of insight, encouragement and connection.

2026 AAGE Guest Presentation and Roundtable Discussion - Melbourne - What Actually Makes an Early Talent Program Work? (12 Aug 2026)

A networking lunch will enable you to catch up with industry peers, followed by a presentation that will conclude with an interactive discussion amongst attendees.

Melbourne Guest Speaker Information

What Actually Makes an Early Talent Program Work?
A boardroom simulation on investment, trade-offs and impact

Presented by our Industry Partner Amberjack Global

Workshop Overview

Early talent teams are under more pressure than ever. You're expected to attract great talent, improve diversity, build capability, support managers, retain graduates and prove impact - often all at the same time.

But if you couldn't invest equally in everything, what would you prioritise?

In this interactive workshop, you'll step into the role of an executive leadership team responsible for a national early talent program. Working through a boardroom-style simulation, you'll make investment decisions, navigate real-world challenges and defend the choices you make under pressure.

Along the way, we'll explore what we're seeing across the market, where organisations are commonly over-investing and under-investing, and what the strongest programs tend to have in common.

This isn't about finding the perfect model or the "right" answer. It's about challenging assumptions, exploring trade-offs and thinking differently about what actually drives impact.

Key Takeaways

You'll leave with:

A fresh perspective on what drives successful early talent programs.

Practical ideas you can apply to your own program.

Insight into common investment blind spots and trade-offs.

A simple framework for evaluating program decisions.

Greater confidence connecting investment decisions to outcomes.

New perspectives from peers facing similar challenges.

Most importantly, you'll leave with a clearer view of what actually makes an early talent program work.

2026 AAGE Guest Presentation and Roundtable Discussion - Sydney - Graduates and their Managers: Singing from the Same Song Sheet (18 Aug 2026)

A networking lunch will enable you to catch up with industry peers, followed by a presentation that will conclude with an interactive discussion amongst attendees.

Sydney Guest Speaker Information

Graduates and their Managers: Singing from the Same Song Sheet

Presented by our Industry Partner Be Challenged

Join Be Challenged CEO Lisa Kelliher as she draws on Be Challenged experience and insights from the graduate sector and AAGE Insights data to explore an important gap in many graduate programs: while graduates are often provided with carefully curated onboarding and ongoing professional learning, the managers and leaders responsible for supporting them may receive far less structured development in this area. The session will unpack why this imbalance matters and what it means for graduate experience, performance and retention.

From there, the workshop will consider the importance of graduates, managers and leaders “singing from the same song sheet” — sharing common language, expectations and ways of thinking that build trust, clarity and collective efficacy. Through a practical countdown of the top 10 areas where shared understanding makes the greatest difference, participants will explore the value and benefits of aligning graduate development with leader capability, and how this alignment can create stronger outcomes for individuals, teams and organisations.

Participants will develop an understanding of:

The value of prioritising graduate manager and leader development with the same focus that they provide to graduates

The benefits of synergy between these groups

The key areas/concepts for understanding that need to be prioritised in order to maximise productivity and synergy between leaders and their graduates.

Then you’ll take part in interactive roundtables designed to draw out the topics on everyone’s radar - from forecasting graduate role requirements and managing higher application volumes, to responding to candidate use of AI, strengthening pre-start engagement, maintaining candidate care under pressure, supporting managers to develop early talent, and building inclusive, future-ready pathways across graduate, intern and broader early careers programs.

Please suggest additional items you are interested in discussing when you register for the event.

Cost

Complimentary entry for AAGE members.

Non-members and member colleagues may attend for $50 + GST.

Members must be logged in to access complimentary registration.

Cancellations

In order for us to cater appropriately, please let us know if you need to cancel your attendance. Also, catering cannot be guaranteed if registration is made four days or less prior to the event.

In order to cancel an invoice raised OR receive a refund for event attendance, the AAGE requires a MINIMUM of 24 hours' notice to receive notice of your intention to cancel. All cancellation requests need to be received in writing via events@aage.com.au.
